Born in New Orleans in an all-black neighborhood, she has had a talent for cooking since she was younger and aspires to own a restaurant. She meets the exiled Prince Naveen, turned into a frog by voodoo magic, who presumes a kiss from Tiana will break the spell upon him. However, she too is turned into a frog, and together the two then try to get out of the bayou and back to New Orleans.

She's also a member of the Disney Princess line.

'20s Bob Haircut: In the "Almost There" montage she sports this style.
The Ace: Tiana is a talented singer, cook, waitress, manager, carpenter, and mason, having worked her tail off to get the money for her restaurant and refurbished it by hand to create an instant sensation in New Orleans.
Action Girl: As a frog, she destroys Facilier's amulet and kicks the frog hunters' butts. The most active of any character in the movie save perhaps the alligator.
Affectionate Nickname: Her best friend, Charlotte, calls her "Tia".
All Work vs. All Play: All work vs Naveen's all play. It's literally all work; she doesn't even sleep.
Badass Adorable: She's a beautiful young lady with plenty of spunk, but she's more than capable of handling herself, and takes on an Action Girl role as the movie goes on.
Badass in Charge: Gets her dream to own her own restaurant and becomes more of a badass along the way.
Baleful Polymorph: She really doesn't like the idea of being a frog.
Battle Couple: She and Naveen fight the redneck frog hunters together.

Brutal Honesty:
- Has no problem laying some hard truths on Naveen.
- Winds up doing the same to Ray later on in the film, when she's devastated over thinking Naveen has betrayed her, and turned human to marry Charlotte while leaving her alone as a frog. Ray begins to tell him that he and Evangeline will make it right, prompting Tiana to angrily interrupt him and tell him Evangeline is nothing more than a star, not a firefly, and that he's being blind and foolish. Gets inverted when Ray thinks she's just lashing out from being brokenhearted, and he winds up as a star in the sky next to Evangeline after his death.
Butt-Monkey: She can't seem to catch a break. She's knocked into a table, transformed into a frog, literally tongue-tied to Naveen and caught by frog hunters, among other things.
Character Development: She loosens up and focuses on what other things she needs out of her life instead of just having a restaurant and doing right by her father's memory.
Character Tics: Tiana squints one eye when she cringes.
Childhood Friends: With Charlotte. The first scene in the movie is the two of them as children listening to a story.
Cool Crown: She dons four during her movie, and went on to become one of the few princesses to always wear one in merchandise.
Determinator: In her quest for getting her restaurant she works herself to the bone.
Forgotten First Meeting: When Naveen initially arrives to New Orleans, he tries to woo Tiana while she's cleaning tables, but she ignores him.
Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Choleric. She's goal-oriented and not as patient with the others' antics.
Girlish Pigtails: She wore them as a kid when she was more carefree.
Go-Getter Girl: Works herself to exhaustion in order to move up in the world and become a business owner.
Handy Feet: On two separate occasions, she shuts off her alarm clock and catches a plate of food with her foot.

It Runs in the Family: Tiana apparently inherited her passion for cooking from her father, who passed his skills onto her when she was little.
Interclass Friendship: With Charlotte, a wealthy Southern socialite.
Modest Royalty: Post-royal marriage, she dresses in old work clothes and takes a hands-on approach to fixing the restaurant.
Never a Self-Made Woman: Weirdly narrative example: it's obvious to the viewer that Tiana gets her dreams through her own hard work, sacrifice, and perseverance, but every character who knows about Tiana's father attributes her success to his influence. At least one reference to Tiana's father being the source of her hard-working nature is made in every song she participates in, and in the end, she has to realize that her father wasn't just a hard worker, he was a family man too in order to learn her personal lesson.
Nice Girl: One of the most cheerful and level-headed characters in the movie.
Odd Friendship: With Charlotte. Tiana is a down-to-earth waitress from a poor family who only thinks about working and Charlotte is a loud, over-dramatic, ditzy, Spoiled Sweet dreamer. Despite their differences, they are lifelong best friends. This is especially heartwarming and notable given the time period, when the racial schism was becoming prominent once more.
Official Couple: With Prince Naveen, who becomes her husband at the end.
One of the Boys: During his Digging Yourself Deeper moment, Naveen refers to her as "one of the guys", clearly offending her.
Only Sane Woman: Unlike Naveen, she realizes that making a deal with Facilier is immensely stupid. She also doesn't believe in wishing on stars (unlike Charlotte), and the fact that she does so at one point is a sign of how desperate she is, emotionally.
Pimped-Out Dress: Has the most dresses out of all the princesses in their main movies, despite being out-pimped by her best friend.
Plucky Girl: Exhibit A is her impressive work ethic while remaining cheerful.
Pretty in Mink: During "Almost There", and Facilier's eerie visualization of this dream in the climax, she wears a white fox fur boa as an accessory to her glamorous white dress (befitting an owner of an upper-class diner).
Prim and Proper Bun: The hairstyle she wears throughout the film (as a human, at least) because of her work ethic. No impractical fashion styles for her.
Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue to Charlotte (more passionate) and Naveen's (more fun-loving) red.
Royals Who Actually Do Something: Her hands-on approach to creating her restaurant after her royal marriage showcases this.
Self-Made Woman: She is a business owner after the climax; the building was bought with her money and fixed up with her (and her husband's) labor.
Sexy Backless Outfit: Her formal green princess dress doesn't cover much of the back.
Simple, yet Opulent: Her blue dress is simpler than Charlotte's big pink ones but still obviously high quality.
Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Tiana doesn't fall for Naveen at first because of his lazy and immature attitude. Things start to change after he saves her from a couple of frog hunters. After that, she starts to genuinely like him for his funny, innovative, and truly kind nature.
Supreme Chef: Her parents said that Tiana had a gift for making things taste great ever since she was a toddler. By the time of the main story, she can create a dinner from scratch in mere seconds and manages to improve Mama Odie's... interesting-looking gumbo. It's also implied that she created the well-loved beignet recipe at the diner she works for, as Lottie pays Tiana rather than the chef, and her restaurant is an instant success once it opens.
Title Character: The "princess" in the movie's title refers to her.
Trademark Favorite Food: Her favorite condiment is Tabasco sauce.
Triple Shifter: She works long shifts as a waitress day and night. Early in the movie, she's shown returning home at dawn and sleeping for a couple of seconds before she needs to get ready for her next job.
True Blue Femininity: The dress she wears at Charlotte's party, an elegant princess gown that contrasts her working-girl yellow peasant dress.
Unconventional Wedding Dress: When she and Naveen get married they're frogs, so they're not wearing clothes at all, though when they kiss they become human again and Tiana magically gains a green and yellow dress based upon a waterlily; it's not a typical wedding dress though it's definitely still a Pimped-Out Dress. Subverted when she marries Naveen a second time as a human; this time she's wearing a white 1920's-style dress with a veil.
Uptight Loves Wild: She (a hardworking, workaholic Only Sane Woman) falls for Naveen (an immature prince who loves to party).
Workaholic: This might be considered her Fatal Flaw, as she's close to running herself into the ground at the start of the movie, with little regard for friends or fun.
Younger Than They Look: It would initially seem that she's in her twenties, since she acts rather mature for a Disney princess (who are usually in their teens) and also works a fulltime job as a waitress. The "A Hidden Gem" book, which is about her twentieth birthday, indirectly reveals that she was nineteen during the events of the movie.

Prince Naveen

The prince of Maldonia. Naveen is a ne'er-do-well and playboy who has been cut off from his family's riches until he learns the value of responsibility.

All Work vs. All Play: All Play to Tiana's All Work. He's never had to work in his life.
Ambiguously Bi: In Ralph Breaks the Internet, he has no problem giving a True Love's Kiss to a comatose Ralph to wake him up. After kissing him, he gives him one of his signature flirtatious smiles.
Ambiguously Brown: While "Naveen" is popular as a masculine Indian name, his accent and the overall flavor of the Maldonian language somehow lands on both the west and east of the Atlantic. Let's keep it short and say that "ambiguous" is the right word.
- Reportedly this was intentional on the filmmakers' part, to avoid upsetting people who wanted either a black prince or a mixed-race couple.
Angel Face, Demon Face: He starts off the movie as a smarmy pretty boy. By the end of the movie, there's been a subtle change to the artwork to indicate that he has grown from the experience into a better person than he started out.
The Anti-Nihilist: Surprisingly for a kids' film, Naveen expresses a worldview among these lines during the song "When We're Human".
Naveen: Life is short, when you're done, you're done! We're on this earth to have some fun! And that's the way things are!
Baleful Polymorph: Unwillingly transformed but he has less of a problem with it than Tiana does. He doesn't mind the mucus.
Battle Couple: With Tiana, since they fight the redneck frog hunters together.
Bewitched Amphibians: Dr. Facilier turns him into a frog.
Break the Haughty: Him getting financially cut off by his parents does this to him.
Brilliant, but Lazy: He's a polyglot, decently educated in science (frog biology at the minimum), and can adapt impressively well to being a frog for a guy that has spent his life being waited on hand and foot. The real reason his parents disowned him was his laziness.
Butt-Monkey: Gets hurt a lot over the course of the movie. It's all done in the name of humor, of course.
The Casanova: Introduced charming the locals, and Faciler's song includes partying with ladies.
Catchphrase: Naveen exclaims "Achidanza" when surprised or impressed, a Maldonian word meaning "cool" according to some of the Disney tie-in books.
Character Development: He becomes much more of a hard worker and gets a better understanding of normal people. He also becomes more self-sufficient.
Chick Magnet: Has a lot of girls swooning over him. In his first scene, Naveen is able to win the affections of a couple of girls he meets when he arrives in New Orleans. Charlotte has the obvious hots for him. Even in frog form, he manages to effortlessly charm a couple of butterflies during "When We're Human". Tiana is initially turned off of him because of his bratty, spoiled personality. It's not until he shows his more humble and sensitive side that she reciprocates.
Chivalrous Pervert: He may be a womanizing charmer, but he is also a gentleman. As examples for both, his first interaction with Tiana is trying to woo her as he's partying, but she isn't interested in the slightest. He simply shrugs and moves on.
Cultured Badass: Coming from a royal upbringing, Naveen is used to things such as high-quality cuisine and other luxuries, while also having quite the taste for music, especially jazz. Over the course of the movie, he starts getting more experience under his belt, to the point where he and Tiana manage to take out the frogcatchers and he puts up a fight against Dr. Facilier.
Foreign Cuss Word: Downplayed. He mutters "Faldi faldonza!" after accidentally turning Tiana into a frog.
Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Sanguine. He keeps an upbeat and optimistic attitude throughout his ordeals.
Gold Digger: He only wants to marry Charlotte so he can become rich again. That is, of course, before he develops true feelings for Tiana.
Gratuitous Foreign Language: He frequently peppers his sentences with phrases from the Maldonian tongue.

Handsome Lech: The reason Tiana can't stand him at first. "Chasing chamber maids in your... ivory tower!"
The Hedonist: This is the reason his parents disowned him; "Your lifestyle's high" as Faciler puts it.
Heroic Build: In human form, which is one reason girls fall over him. One wonders how he developed it while being lazy.
Hidden Depths: He comes across as a smarmy, cheesy "no-account, good for nothing" as Tiana calls him, but he displays resourcefulness, adaptability, musical talent, scientific knowledge, and multilingual knowledge, plus a willingness to learn. His character arc reveals that a lot of his immature behavior is used as a mask to hide deep insecurities about literally not knowing how to do anything for himself due to his parents spoiling him most of his life and then kicking him out.
Horrible Judge of Character: The entire plot is kicked off when Naveen is easily duped by the Obviously Evil Dr. Facilier and turned into a frog. Tiana even lampshades how stupid Naveen was to trust him:
Tiana: You mean to tell me this all happened because you were messin' with the Shadow Man?!
Naveen: [defensively] He was very charismatic!
Impoverished Patrician: His parents are still wealthy but they disowned him, thus making him a poor prince.
Innocently Insensitive: This is mostly shown with his treatment of Lawrence, who he initially has no idea feels so much resentment towards him.
Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Starts off as a womanizing jerk and then matures later in the film. And even before his Character Development, he's still a decent person given his earlier scene with dancing and befriending a boy despite mistreating Lawrence. He also saves Tiana from frog hunters later.
Ladykiller in Love: Towards Tiana; the first woman out of "thousands" that he's serious about.
Large Ham: Check out his Big Entrance; all that press and starting a banjo concert.
Manic Pixie Dream Guy: He's a carefree fun guy who helps Tiana loosen up and enjoy life. Conversely, she helps him become serious.
Millionaire Playboy: The reason his parents cut him off is not just that he wasted their money on meaningless dates and parties, but that he has learned pretty much nothing when it comes to doing things on his own.
Mock Millionaire: His parents cut him off because of his spending habits, yet he still pretends to be well-off in order to marry a rich woman.
Modest Royalty: Initially no, but his parents cutting him off and his relationship with Tiana humble him.
Mr. Fanservice: On top of being suave and flirtatious, he's very good-looking, and he knows it. According to commentary on the film, his voice actor was determined by the amount of positive female feedback he got from his voice.
Nice Hat: As a human, he wears a cream-colored hat.
Nightmare Fetishist: Not only is he easily duped into following Facilier, once he's inside the Voodoo Emporium, witnessing some magic that goes well beyond the scope of a normal tarot reading and the ostensibly decorative masks starting to sing with Facilier — he seems to really get into it and really enjoy being around the strange, magical things. In fact, he doesn't show any signs of fear until he's bound up in the chair, being turned into a frog.
Official Couple: With Tiana, who becomes his wife.
Pretty Freeloader: Best summed up in a piece of test animation ^note using audio from Don Juan DeMarco, no less:
Naveen: I would never take advantage of a woman... I give women pleasure.
Really Gets Around: He may be exaggerating when he says "thousands", but it's safe to say he was very popular back home and initially has no problem with flirting with various women and breaking their hearts before settling down with Charlotte.
Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Tiana's blue; he's much more impulsive and outgoing about his passions than Tiana.
Reformed Rakes: A former lazy womanizer becoming a devoted husband.
Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: Subverted. He's pretty resourceful for a guy who's been turned into a frog, but the idea behind the trope is why his parents cut him off from the family fortune.
Riches to Rags: Frustrated by his reckless spending, his family cut him off from their fortune. Effectively leaving him broke.
Royal Brat: "Brat" is a strong word, but he was pretty spoiled as a child and became a rather self-indulgent adult.
Royals Who Actually Do Something: At the very beginning, he's not at all shy about performing. It's taken further through his Character Development, as he's shown to be resourceful when turned into a frog and is also surprisingly quick to utilize the abilities his frog form grants. After the climax, he helps Tiana renovate the sugar factory and waits tables during the grand opening.
Secondary Character Title: Naveen is the "Frog".
Sheltered Aristocrat: He doesn't know how to take care of himself because others have always done that for him. Around the middle of the movie, he becomes pretty bummed when he acknowledges this. Tiana feels for him and helps teach him how to cook (well, as best as they can since they are in frog form).
Smarter Than You Look: Adapts much faster to frog form than Tiana, despite his sheltered upbringing.
Talented Princess, Regular Guy: Gender Flipped; Prince Naveen speaks more than one language and can play jazz music while Tiana is the snarking commoner, though she's quite talented herself.
Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Is a tall, black-haired, and very handsome man.
Title Character: The "frog" in the movie's title refers to him.
Unwitting Pawn: He has no idea that Facilier was just using him to achieve his goals.
Upper-Class Twit: Before he's turned into a frog and subjected to Break the Haughty, he's a hedonistic, irresponsible womanizer who uses his charms just to have fun.
Uptown Guy: For Tiana; prince and waitress.
Wouldn't Hit a Girl: Implied in a scene (when they are frogs and they are inside a tree) when you can hear Tiana hitting him, and you don't hear him strike back.

Charlotte "Lottie" LaBouff

"Oh, Tia, honey, did you see the way he danced with me? A marriage proposal can't be far behind. Thank you, Evening Star!"

A wealthy Southern débutante and Tiana's best friend since childhood.

Affectionate Nickname: Her best friend, Tiana, calls her "Lottie".
Beauty Mark: Deliberately invoked when she puts on a false one with a pen in her debut scene.
Childhood Friends: With Tiana. They have been best friends since they were children.
Cloudcuckoolander: She's a grown woman who is still in the Princess Phase. She still believes that wishing upon stars actually works.
Daddy's Girl: A great relationship with Daddy LaBouff.
Dumb Blonde: None too bright and easy to fool; when hiring Tiana, she hands her a wad of cash.
Gainaxing: When she re-adjusts her dress, something bounces.
Genki Girl: In most of her scenes she's energetic and excited.
Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She may be a Dumb Blonde with oodles of cash and a father who'll give her absolutely anything she wants, but her heart is definitely in the right place — after Tiana's outfit gets soaked, Charlotte gives her one of her own dresses to wear instead. At the end, she wholeheartedly agrees to kiss frog Naveen so he and Tiana can return to human form, even if it means Naveen will be with Tiana rather than her.
- She is notably the only one of Tiana's friends/coworkers not shown to belittle her her dream or how hard she pushes herself to get there.
Hidden Depths: Despite being rather loud and pushy, she shows a considerable amount of compassion and a good heart. She willingly agrees to kiss frog Naveen with no strings attached to free them from the curse. After Tiana's accident at the party, Charlotte immediately leaves Prince Naveen on the dance floor to help Tiana clean up and change her dress. She may be spoiled and a bit superficial, but she knows what's truly important to her and presents herself as a good friend.
Honorary Princess: Every time Big Daddy Labouff is elected King of Mardi Gras in New Orleans, his daughter Charlotte is considered a princess for the day. It counts, much to the surprise of Tiana and Naveen, and that's why Charlotte has the power to give them back their human form with a kiss. Charlotte is absolutely heartbroken when she realizes the day's passed and she can't turn them back.
Innocent Blue Eyes: Is blue-eyed and pretty naive as to how the world works due to how spoiled she is in addition to being Locked Out of the Loop for much of the movie.
The Jailbait Wait: She's willing to wait until Prince Naveen's younger brother comes of age to marry him.
Kindhearted Simpleton: She may be a fool, but she's always kind and generous. The only one she bosses around is Big Daddy.
Large Ham: For her princess mode, she brings her own sparkles to create that enchanted atmosphere.
Lovable Alpha Bitch: The first two elements are obvious, a sweet girl AND the unofficial princess of New Orleans. The last one is apparent in her complete dominion of her father and her treatment of wannabe suitor Travis.
Missing Mom: Her mother is never seen or mentioned. It's not known if she's dead, or her parents are just divorced.
Ms. Fanservice: We always see Lottie wearing dresses that show her shape.
Naïve Everygirl: She's extremely romantic and naive and has the personality of a fairy tale heroine.
Nice Girl: She's selfless and kind, willing to sacrifice her own happiness for Tiana's.
Nice to the Waiter: She's a bit oblivious to Tiana's problems and comes across as an airheaded socialite sometimes, but her kind treatment of servants and workers shows that her heart is in the right place.
Odd Friendship: With Tiana. Charlotte is a loud, over-dramatic, ditzy, Spoiled Sweet dreamer and Tiana is a down-to-earth waitress from a poor family who only thinks about working. Despite their differences, they are lifelong best friends.
Pimped-Out Dress: She has a closet full of them; Tiana's mom was hired to make them for her.
Pretty in Mink: A few of her princess dresses have a bit of fur trim, and she wears a dark pink boa when telling Tiana about the Prince's arrival.
Princess Phase: Charlotte is firmly in this stage when we see her and Tiana as young girls in the opening — her room filled to the brim with pink frilly dresses, tiaras, and fairytale accessories while she moons over a fairytale read by Tiana's mother. Flash forward fifteen or so years... and nothing's changed.
Princesses Prefer Pink: All her outfits, except the blue dress she lends Tiana, are in pink (although pink for a girl's color wasn't that common before World War II).
Red Oni, Blue Oni: The red to Tiana's blue. Where Tiana is level-headed and serious, Charlotte is energetic and outgoing.
Rich in Dollars, Poor in Sense: She is Tiana's foil in this regard — extremely rich, but little work ethic.
Settle for Sibling: At the end when she discovers that Naveen has a younger brother who is also a prince, Charlotte is willing to wait to marry him when he grows up.
Southern Belle: She is the daughter of the richest man in New Orleans, has a kind, energetic and outgoing personality, and a thick Southern accent.
Spoiled Sweet: Aside from a couple of rude moments from frustration, she's otherwise very nice. When Tiana spills food during a hectic moment, Charlotte immediately recognizes that it was an accident, goes upstairs with Tiana to help her wash up, and even lends Tiana one of her own princess dresses to cheer her up. She's even the current trope image.
Thinks Like a Romance Novel: She has wanted to fall in love with a prince and become a princess since she was a little girl.
Token Black Friend: Inverted. She is the Token White Friend to Tiana, the Black protagonist of the movie.
Vocal Dissonance: She has a mostly squeaky voice that drops when whenever she gets too excited or is trying to be seductive.
Womanchild: The princess fantasies she's had from childhood look odd on someone her age, especially with her other habits of crying and throwing tantrums to her father when she doesn't get her way.

Louis

A friendly, neurotic, trumpet-playing alligator whose dream is to play in a jazz band.

Acrofatic: He's a 300-pound alligator, but can be surprisingly graceful, as shown during the "When We're Human" scene. This is Truth in Television to an extent, as gators and crocs are much more agile than most people would be inclined to believe, considering their impressive size.
Beware the Nice Ones: Nice and goofy he may be, but don't forget he's an alligator.
Big Eater: When Tiana tells him about the restaurant he begins listing off various dishes he wishes to try, and if Naveen didn't interrupt him, he would have kept going.
Big Fun: Very big and loves music.
The Big Guy: In a group of fireflies and frogs, he's the most imposing.
Crouching Moron, Hidden Badass: He may be goofy and sweet-natured, but when push comes to shove, he's still a freaking alligator, something he uses to his advantage a few times throughout the movie.
Fat Idiot: He's big and none too bright, and he gets lost easily.
Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Melancholic. Though kind and generally polite, he becomes the most wound-up in the face of danger, and almost doesn't join the adventure for fear of going into the deeper parts of the bayou.
Genius Ditz: While he's goofy and has a poor sense of direction, he is skilled in trumpet playing for an alligator who has never taken any formal music lessons.
Gentle Giant: For being so big and strong he's a Nice Guy.
Large Ham: Hardly is there a sentence that comes out of his mouth that isn't dripping with over-the-top enthusiasm.
Mighty Roar: When he's trying to be intimidating, he lets off an impressive crocodilian bellow.
My Species Doth Protest Too Much: He doesn't like hunting and eating frogs; he'd rather play the trumpet.
Named After Somebody Famous: Louis Armstrong, whom he even mentions in "When We're Human".
Never Smile at a Crocodile: Subverted, Louis is one of the friendliest alligators to ever appear in a Disney film. That said, he's willing to growl threateningly at a pair of greedy real estate agents to convince them not to cheat Tiana out of her restaurant.
Nice Guy: Unlike his fellows alligators, he's friendly and dreams of being a great musician. He also bonds immediately with Tiana and Naveen, especially the latter.
Non-Human Sidekick: For Tiana and Naveen, who use him to scare the bank into keeping their word.
No Sense of Direction: As Ray says, "Never take directions from a gator."
Pinocchio Syndrome: He says he wants to become a human so he can play jazz with the humans. This never comes to pass.
Reluctant Monster: An alligator that doesn't like the alligator lifestyle. He'll drop the "reluctant" part if his friends are in danger.
Static Character: He's the only main character who goes through no notable changes and makes no major sacrifices. Worth noting is, Louis realizes in the same vein as Tiana and Naveen that what he wants - to become human in order to play jazz music - doesn't necessarily correlate to what he needs. Unlike the other two, however, he sticks with this to the end, in that he eventually gets to join a band and play at Tiana's restaurant even while still being an alligator.

Ray

A Cajun firefly who knows Mama Odie and is in love with the Evening Star, which he believes is another firefly named "Evangeline".

Canon Character All Along: After he dies, he becomes a star to the right of Evangilene, effectively making him Neverland.
Four-Temperament Ensemble: The Phlegmatic. Perceptive and generally just plain sweet, he's always willing to give a helping hand, but at the risk that he can be a bit naive at times.
Go Out with a Smile: He survives being stepped on just long enough to see that Tiana and Naveen have declared their love for each other. This makes him smile to his tearful companions before he finally fades.
Green-Eyed Monster: Acts like this when he accuses Prince Naveen of being in love with Evangeline.
Hidden Depths: Ray appears at first to be a stereotypical hillbilly-type, but he turns out to be one of the most insightful, caring, and helpful people in the group. He's also competent, which goes a long way when the first two things he does are untying Naveen and Tiana (after Louis' well-meaning attempt made things much worse), and pointing out that Louis had been leading them in the wrong direction.
Hypercompetent Sidekick: He gives great directions, has a great singing voice, and has the power to zap shadow demons.
Non-Human Sidekick: To Tiana and Naveen, at least until his death.
Ragin' Cajun: Most of the time this Cajun firefly is pretty laid-back and goofy, but he gives the Friends on the Other Side a hard time in the third act.
Shipper on Deck: Clearly supports Tiana and Naveen getting together.
Smarter Than You Look: He looks like a stereotypical hillbilly but he's both smart and insightful.
Stellification: At the end of the movie, he turns into a star next to Evangeline after he's killed by Dr. Facilier.

Mama Odie

A blind voodoo priestess who claims to be 197-years-old. Tiana and Naveen search for her in hopes that she can help them turn back to humans.

Barefoot Sage: The wise old voodoo priestess of the Bayou doesn't wear shoes, and is shown to be connected to all the animals that live there. She's also quite quirky.
Big Good: She is known as Queen of the Bayou and is the most powerful voodoo practitioner on the heroic side.
Cloud Cuckoo Lander: She falls asleep mid-conversation, kisses a snake repeatedly on the mouth, and changes topics almost mid-sentence.
Cool Old Lady: She's the page image; a witty old mentor figure that zaps demons.
Cool Shades: Justified in that she's blind. Her eyes are apparently kept in a jar, and move to follow Tiana and Naveen.
Does Not Like Shoes: She is never shown wearing shoes even when walking around in the swamp.
Eccentric Mentor: She likes playing pranks and being mystic while dispensing wisdom.
Gold and White Are Divine: Her style of dress is white, gold, and makes her look like a wise old sage.
Good Counterpart: To Doctor Facilier. Both are users of voodoo magic. They are both associated with snakes - Mama has a cute and helpful snake pet while Facilier's shadow occasionally takes a sinister rattlesnake's shape. Facilier's so-called "friends" are all dead spirits and demons, while Mama Odie has actual friends in living animals. Mama Odie is the (grand)motherly Big Good and Doctor Facilier is the Faux Affably Evil Big Bad.
Good Wears White: She wears white and is the Big Good.
Handicapped Badass: After zapping the shadows she says, "Not bad for a 197-year-old blind lady!"
Irony: Mama Odie lives in a boat in the dark bayou, but has light magic; Dr. Facilier walks among the brightly lit streets of New Orleans, but has dark magic.
Light 'em Up: Her staff can blast light rays. It is used as a weapon against the Friends on the Other Side.
Light Is Good: The polar opposite of Facilier, she wears gold and white, fends off the Friends on the Other Side with blasts of light from her staff, and ends her musical number with a sunshine-filled sky. "Blue skies and sunshine, guaranteed!"
Magical Barefooter: She's a voodoo priestess who goes around barefoot. This is partly because her powers are related to nature, and partly practicality since she lives in a swamp.
Never Mess with Granny: She single-handedly beats back several of Facilier's shadow helpers.
Nice Girl: Mama Odie is a kind, (grand)motherly, and wise figure in the movie.
No Celebrities Were Harmed: Her character's appearance and voice were partly inspired by and patterned after famed New Orleans storyteller Colleen Salley, who consulted with the directors, but never lived to see the finished movie. She gets special mention in the credits.
- Jenifer Lewis also apparently channels actor/comedian Moms Mabley in the way she voices the character.
Really 700 Years Old: She's nearly two hundred years old and is quite spry for her age (though magic probably has something to do with that).
Reused Character Design: A lot of the staff from The Proud Family worked on this movie. As such, Mama Odie bears a resemblance to Suga Mama.
Senior Sleep Cycle: She can sometimes fall asleep rather unexpectedly.
Smarter Than You Look: She seems completely senile at first, but she's very wise and clever.
Solitary Sorceress: Lives by herself out in the bayou. The "solitary" aspect is played with in that she has plenty of company in animal familiars.
Trickster Mentor: She was fully aware that the spell would break if Naveen and Tiana married as frogs, then kissed - since that would make Tiana a princess. But she needs to wait until they fall in love on their own.
Wizards Live Longer: She's a voodoo priestess who claims to be 197 years old.

Juju

Mama Odie's pet snake and her loyal assistant.

Animorphism: Mama Odie changes him into a dog, a pig, a cow, and a goat during one verse of "Dig A Little Deeper".
Amplified Animal Aptitude: He's a familiar; it goes with the territory.
Beleaguered Assistant: It's not easy working for Odie when you have to be her walking stick and demonstration of her shapeshifting magic.
Butt-Monkey: "Dig A Little Deeper" has him swiftly changed into many different creatures.
Familiar: He is Mama Odie's familiar snake.
Feather Boa Constrictor: He is worn by Mama Odie, a good voodoo priestess, when him not being used as a walking stick for the 197-year-young visually challenged lady.
Loyal Animal Companion: Enough to serve as a cane for her when she needs it. Apparently he's been with Odie for a long time, though since it's not her story we only have her word on this.
Morphic Resonance: He still looks rather snake-like through his transformations.

Reptiles Are Abhorrent: Thoroughly inverted—he might be the cutest snake ever put to paper.
Seldom-Seen Species: His piglet-like snout and chubby appearance suggest an Eastern puff adder (Heterodon platyrhinos).
Snakes Are Sinister: He is an aversion, a friendly and good-natured assistant to the benevolent voodoo priestess Mama Odie.
The Voiceless: Although he seems to possess the same level of sapience as Mama Odie's spoonbills, he does not talk.

Eli "Big Daddy" LaBouff

A wealthy Southern sugar mill owner and Charlotte's father, Eli LaBouff is the easily the richest and most powerful (or at least influential) man in New Orleans, as well as being the most popular.

100% Adoration Rating: Given how he's been elected King of the Mardi Gras parade for five years running, he's certainly got a good reputation. Given how charitable he is, it's easy to see why.
Adipose Rex: He's overweight and one of the most powerful individuals in New Orleans on account of his sugar plantation.
Big Eater: He frequently orders large quantities of pastries from Tiana.
Big Fun: A tall and fat guy with a jovial attitude and apparently very popular in New Orleans.
Doting Parent: He's the one that spoiled Charlotte. Yet despite apparently spoiling his daughter and not being good on disciplining her, he does show some ability to control her, even if slightly (ex. stuffing a beignet in her mouth to stop her from continually interrupting him).
Fat, Sweaty Southerner in a White Suit: A positive example, as he is polite, affable, and perfectly happy at the prospect of his daughter marrying a man with dark skin. Given this is New Orleans, the family may actually be white-passing or distantly-related Creoles.
Formerly Fit: His gut was far less noticeable when Tiana and Charlotte were little kids.
Good Parents: Though more through luck than skill—he spoils Charlotte dreadfully, but it seems to have worked out for the best because she's nice despite being so pampered.
Ink-Suit Actor: Seriously, he's basically John Goodman with red hair and a moustache.
Nice Guy: Is one of the kindest people in New Orleans, a kind-hearted and doting parent, a charitable man, and is well loved by his community.
Nice to the Waiter: He handsomely pays Tiana and her mother for the services they provide and a Freeze-Frame Bonus allows to see that he gave a huge tip to the boy who sold him his newspaper. The fact that this is a rich white man in 1920s New Orleans who treats black people with decency and respect (doubly so given how the Fenner Brothers treat Tiana on account of her race and gender) makes it even more noticeable.
Parental Substitute: He acts kind of like a fatherly figure to Tiana, especially since Tiana's own father has passed away (presumably in World War I). In one of the storybooks, it's revealed that Mr. La Bouff walked Tiana down the aisle during her and Naveen's (second) wedding.
Trademark Favorite Food: Beignets, to the point that Tiana has a fresh batch ready just for him when he arrives at Duke's.
Uncle Pennybags: He is a doting parent and hosts excellent parties, not to mention he's an excellent tipper.

Stepford Smiler: According to Facilier, James was a Type A. He was worn out from working hard for his wife and daughter, but he never showed it around Tiana.

A voodoo witch doctor, and the film's main antagonist. He's known throughout the bayou as "the Shadow Man".

Ain't Too Proud to Beg: When Tiana smashes the talisman and the FOTOS appear to drag him off to Hell, Facilier tries to talk his way out of the situation by promising to pay them back in time. It doesn't work one bit.
Animal Motif: The film repeatedly associates him with snakes. It's most visible during "Friends on the Other Side".
Badass Longcoat: A tuxedo jacket, complete with coattails. He's a showman, and he's gotta look good.
Bad Samaritan: His business is based on helping others and his card says "dreams made real", but no one is better off for his help.
Bare Your Midriff: A rare male example of this trope. As the picture on the right shows, his shirt doesn't cover his midriff.
The Barnum: A showman and a con artist is he.
Berserk Button:
- Being called a charlatan (even if he was acting like one at first when he meets Naveen). He momentarily drops his polite exterior to snap at Lawrence for whispering it to Naveen. He also spends a great deal of "Friends on the Other Side" picking on him as a result.
- Fearing the wrath of the Friends of the Other Side, threatening to break the talisman also works as this. He loses his cool with this twice: first with Lawrence (but he manages to compose himself), and then with Tiana (who succeeds in destroying the talisman). He also kills Ray for trying to break it.
Big Bad: He's the main villain, and it is his Evil Plan that drives the plot.
- Big Bad Wannabe: However, as the plot progresses, it turns out he's not as in control as he'd like to be. His whole plan is not just to benefit himself, but mostly to pay back his debt to beings far more powerful than he'll ever be. At the end of the movie, when Tiana smashes his talisman, he undergoes a Villainous Breakdown upon realizing he won't be able to pay back his debt, which spells his doom.
Big "NO!": He gives off a couple of these when Tiana smashes his amulet.
Borrowin' Samedi: He's one of the images on the trope page for a reason.
Breakout Villain: His appearance, behavior, song and death has made him a well-known and popular character from the film and one of the most memorable villains that the company offered in the 2000s. The fact that he is one of the primary forces in the Disney Villain spin-off franchise is quite impressive.
Brilliant, but Lazy: He's a master manipulator, but he uses these skills to cut corners and take the easy way out. Hence why his name is "Facilier".
But Not Too Black: His skin is lighter than that of Tiana, her family, Mama Odie, or even Naveen. Word of God says he was supposed to be of Creole descent.
- Icy Blue Eyes: They're actually a light shade of purple but still give him a piercing glare, and also hint at mixed ancestry.
Card-Carrying Villain: He is a literal example of the trope. It has a skull on it.
Casting a Shadow: His main power, with help from evil voodoo spirits, is the ability to manipulate shadows as if they were the physical object that's casting that shadow. It's turned against him when he's pulled by his shadow down into the Other Side.
Classic Villain: Mainly Greed, though his con-artist status mixed with his constant corner cutting puts him in the Sloth category as well.
Con Man: He charms and manipulates people who have certain goals and ends up tricking them in the end.
The Corrupter: He essentially gets Lawrence to work for him by appealing to his resentment of being under the thumb of those richer and more powerful than him.
Cut Lex Luthor a Check: Facilier's Establishing Character Moment involves him invoking Be Careful What You Wish For on a balding man seeking to regrow his hair. Facilier's magic powder does give his client a full head of hair, momentarily... then makes him grow so much hair that he resembles a sasquatch. Since Facilier appears to make his living based upon people seeking him out, it's never shown how being a Jackass Genie was more beneficial to him than simply curing the man's baldness.
Dark and Troubled Past: Implied. Some of his dialogue implies he grew up poor and had bad experiences with the rich.
Dark Is Evil: Dr. Facilier's outfit is mainly black, he has the ability to control shadows, and he's the Big Bad.
Deal with the Devil:
- It's revealed that the source of Dr. Facilier's powers come from his "friends on the other side" with whom he owes many debts to.
- This is also Facilier's method of choice. It's apparent that he can't just kidnap the Prince by force, his magic will only work if he gets Naveen to make a deal with him first (Naveen, of course, has no idea what he's truly agreeing to).
Death by Irony: After his amulet (on loan from his "friends") is shattered, he asks for more time to pay off his debt, after which they drag him off to their world. He got what he wanted, but he lost what he had. On top of that, he constantly scammed people and was the devil in any deal. The original deal he made for his powers is what does him in when he cannot pay off his debt.
Dragged Off to Hell: Facilier's fate. After Tiana breaks his talisman, the one object that binds the contract between him and his "friends", the angry voodoo spirits come upon him and drag him by the ankles into the underworld, leaving behind a tombstone that bears his screaming face. Granted, the Loa are not demons and have no belief in hell.
Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: When Dr. Facilier tempts Tiana, he tries to avoid this by reminding her how her father worked hard to achieve his dream and surely fulfilling that can't be bad? Tiana is tempted, but then she sees the scene of her dad hugging her and knows that he was happy in life, even if he never got what he wanted. Dr. Facilier underestimated that she would remember the spirit of honoring her father's memory, not the details.
Evil Counterpart: To Mama Odie. He dressed in black (instead of white), he's insightful but uses it to manipulate instead of teach, and offers to "help" when he's only helping himself. He's also tall and skinny while she's short and fat.
Evil Is Not a Toy: It really, really isn't. He does show an appropriate amount of wariness when dealing with his "Friends," but he's still taken by surprise when they finally get sick of his excuses and finish him off.
Evil Laugh: Facilier, in grand ol' Disney tradition, gives a hearty laugh when Tiana fails to shatter the talisman the first time. His shadow has one, too!
Evil Plan: The general gist of Facilier's plan is to get filthy rich. Turning two innocents into frogs, tricking Lottie into a fake marriage with Lawrence, killing her father, and promising the soul of every New Orleans citizen to his Friends are just steps.
Evil Sorcerer: Facilier's apparently the 1920s Big Easy's version of an Evil Sorcerer. He's an expert in what he knows, which is to scam people out of their money via his magic.
Evil Sounds Deep: This comes naturally to any villain voiced by Keith David. Though his voice can also make him charismatic (as in his introduction to Naveen), once he gets angry, it booms.
Expy: Word of God has stated that he's the "lovechild" of Captain Hook and Cruella De Vil.
Everybody Calls Him "Barkeep": In the movie we only learn of his name from himself; everyone else calls him "The Shadow Man".
Fatal Flaw: His greed and manipulative nature ends up doing him in when Tiana destroys the talisman.
Faux Affably Evil: He may be trying to capture all the souls of Louisiana for his evil friends on the other side but, as Prince Naveen admits, he is very charismatic, to the point where almost no one in New Orleans knows the real Dr. Facilier (consider that someone can be seen taking a deal from him at the beginning of the movie).
Foil: One to Tiana's deceased father James, highlighted when tempting Tiana herself in a vision
- James was a hard-working family man known for working double/ triple shifts at his job, leaving him fatigued. Dr. Facilier, on the other hand, rode the easy trip to power by making deals with dark entities and getting voodoo magic powers, at the cost of being permanently in debt to those dark forces.
- Despite James never getting the money needed for a restaurant and dying poor, Tiana realizes that he died happy and in the company of a family that loved him. Facilier, on the other hand, is alone save for his "friends", monstrous spirits that only help Facilier because he owes them and are willing to dispose of him if he fails them.
- Both characters are seen as in the bottom of society beneath the notice of the rest of the populace, one being a humble and poor working man, the other a seedy con artist with shadowy motives. However, while James had what he truly needed (love) and never lost sight of what was really important(family), Facilier digs himself deeper into debt and is eventually taken by his "friends", and no one mourns him.
Freudian Excuse: It's implied that he grew up poor, and that the reason he hates those "fat cats" is that while they could've helped him, they instead chose to ignore his suffering while also showing off their fabulous wealth. This is briefly shown in his first scene where Big Daddy gives a little boy money but drives right by Facilier without glancing at him foreshadowing his comment to Lawrence, "Aren't you tired of living on the margins while all those fat cats in their fancy suits don't give you so much the sideways glance?". Although with Big Daddy, Dr. Facilier's tendency to be a con artist and to cut corners may also explain why Big Daddy ignores Dr. Facilier.
The Heavy: He's the main villain that has to be defeated, but from the get-go the audience knows that he's working for his creditors, i.e. the Friends on the Other Side.
Hero Killer: He steps on Ray, the cute animal sidekick.
Hidden Depths: All of his evil is motivated by a hatred towards the rich, and especially toward those who were born rich and do nothing, like Naveen. He also sympathizes with the poor like Tiana and Lawrence, further implying his downtrodden past.
Hypocrite: He talks Lawrence into working for him by convincing him that everyone has been pushing him around. Though Dr. Facilier himself is pushing around Lawrence and is perfectly fine letting his shadow kick him in the rear for no reason.
Irony: Dr. Facilier walks among the brightly lit streets of New Orleans, but has dark magic; Mama Odie lives in a boat in the dark bayou, but has light magic.
Jackass Genie: Naveen never actually made a wish. He went in to get his fortune told, but Facilier knew he was looking for money, i.e. 'The Green', and, when the deal was sealed by a shake of hands, Faciler promptly gave Naveen his OWN interpretation! Lawrence also did not get quite what he expected; Facilier told him he'd "be the man he always wanted to be", but he didn't realize that would mean literally becoming the Prince.
Facilier: ... I hope you're satisfied! But if you ain't, don't blame me! You can blame my friends on the other side! Hahahaha!
Karmic Death: The man who repeatedly scammed people with crooked Faustian deals dies when he can no longer pay back his own creditors, who take his soul as payment.
Large Ham: This guy knows his showmanship. Naveen falls for it hook, line, and sinker. Even in private moments he likes talking dramatically and gesturing with his cane.
Last Words: "I promise I'll pay y'all back! I PROMISE!"
Lean and Mean: Even Tiana, who works herself to the bone, is not as lean as the villain.
Living Shadow: Provides the page image for this trope too. It's more physically expressive than he is and can affect the physical world by interacting with other shadows. He later gets several more shadows, but they turn on him when he can't repay his debt.
The Man Behind the Man: He clearly plans on being this once Lawrence marries Charlotte and takes over Big Daddy's role as head of the city's most influential family. Which would make his Friends on the Other Side the spirits behind the man behind the man pretending to be another man...
Manipulative Bastard: He finds his mark's motivation and uses it to make money.
Master of Illusion: When confronting Tiana, he creates a vision of her dream restaurant to sway her to his side.
Morally Ambiguous Doctorate: It's unknown what he's a "doctor" of. A witch doctor, perhaps?
Mr. Fanservice: Being voiced by Keith David and all. He also is based on Baron Samedi, whose domain does include sexuality...
Names to Run Away from Really Fast: The residents of New Orleans refer to him as "The Shadow Man".
Nice Hat: A top hat with a skull on it!
Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Turning Tiana into a frog after she tried destroying his amulet merely gives her the opportunity for a second (successful) attempt - her tongue lets her snatch the amulet, and her smaller size lets her smash the amulet directly into the ground. Combined with how he'd teleported the two of them to a graveyard, and he sets the stage for himself to be Dragged Off to Hell. ^note Facilier is not taken specifically to Hell, as the Loa are not demons, nor do they have any relation to the Christian concept of Hell. However, he's not eager to go wherever he's being dragged, either.
Noodle People: He has this design, in contrast to all the other human characters, who are more realistically proportioned.
No Self-Buffs: When Lawrence asks him why he doesn't use the amulet himself, Facilier puts it around his own neck. Nothing happens. Turns out voodoo doesn't work that way.
Doctor Facilier: Fun fact about voodoo, Larry... [puts on the amulet; nothing happens, he shrugs] Can't conjure a thing for myself.
Not-So-Phony Psychic: Not a literal psychic, but Lawrence initially assumes he's a con man using showmanship and stage magic to make a living scamming people. He is a scam artist, but his magic is very, very real.
Obviously Evil: His card has a skull on it. It's baffling that Naveen trusts this guy, but, to quote: "He was very charismatic!"
Only Known by Their Nickname: Dr. Facilier's name is only said once (by himself) in the movie. The other characters refer to him as "The Shadow Man". Tiana even calls him it to his face once.
Properly Paranoid: Facilier knows damn well what happens if you make a Deal with the Devil you can't keep. He loses it when Lawrence threatens to destroy the talisman. When Tiana does destroy the talisman, we get to see that Facilier had some damn good reasons to be so protective of it.
Purple Is Powerful: He dresses in dark purple shades, uses a cane topped with a purple orb, has purple eyes, and is an incredibly powerful magic user courtesy of his deals with the loa.
Red Baron: Most of New Orleans knows him as "the Shadow Man", due his use of dark magic and his shady deals.
Reused Character Design: A lot of the staff from The Proud Family worked on this movie. As such, Facilier bears a resemblance to Oscar Proud.
Sadist: His shadow loves tormenting Lawrence, kicking him and even laughing maliciously after tripping him.
Scary Black Man: The Shadow Man is a very sinister, murderous, cunning sociopath who's played by Keith David.
The Shadow Knows: Would you trust a man whose shadow turns into a rattlesnake occasionally?
Skeleton Motif: He has a skull on his Nice Hat and briefly puts on a skull mask during his song, "Friends on the Other Side".
Smug Snake: He's so sure of himself and his plans, and this makes his Villainous Breakdown all the more effective, as he's reduced to speed-talking and begging.
Snake Oil Salesman: His services may seem helpful at first glance, but they're designed to screw over the customers in the end. They technically work, but only if it suits his agenda.
Snakes Are Sinister: He wears a pair of viper fangs as a necklace. When no-one else is looking, his shadow turns into a snake several times.
The Sociopath: As much as he claims to be willing to help people, he cares nothing about anyone but himself. He's willing to send everyone in New Orleans to the Friends on the Other Side if it means his "friends" don't end up taking him instead.
Supernatural Is Purple: He is a voodoo sorcerer, after all, so his magic is purple.
Villainous Breakdown: Once Tiana snatches (with her tongue) and destroys his talisman, he's left panicking over now being unable to pay off his debt to his "friends" and is left frantically begging for more time as they drag him to their realm as payment.
Facilier: No! Please, no...! AAAAHH!!! Just a little more time!!! I promise I'll pay y'all back! I PROMISE!!!
Villain Has a Point: While manipulating Tiana into giving him the tailsman, he wasn't incorrect when pointing out everything that Tiana had sacrificed and those who had doubted her abilities, especially pointing out that her father had never got the restaurant he always dreamed of since he too worked so hard each and every day. Too bad it backfires on him, since Tiana knew that her father had one important thing: Love.
Villainous Friendship: Dr. Facilier and his shadow act quite friendly with each other. His shadow is his only friend that doesn't betray him after the amulet is destroyed, and can even be seen hiding behind Facilier for protection.
Villain Respect: He does seem to show genuine respect to Tiana about "dreaming big". Also for her dad being a "hardworking man".
Villains Want Mercy: When Tiana destroys his amulet and his "friends" show up to claim his soul, Facilier spends his final moments desperately begging them for mercy and more time to pay off his debt. None of it works, and he's ultimately dragged off to their world, screaming all the while.
White Mask of Doom: He peels the skull off his hat and transfers it to his face when he changes Naveen and retrieves the amulet of his blood.
Witch Doctor: While he's never referred to as a Witch Doctor, only as a Shadow Man, and he isn't a leader of any sort, he's still a practitioner of Hollywood Voodoo bearing the Doctor title.
Xanatos Speed Chess: He is really good at thinking of plans on the spot, as shown when he thinks of a plan to force Tiana into giving back his amulet in less than three seconds. It almost works, too.

Lawrence

Voiced by: Peter Bartlett; Michel Papineschi (French); Claes Ljungmark (Swedish)

Prince Naveen's valet, whom Dr. Facilier recruits as a partner in his Evil Plan by transforming him to look like Naveen using a blood charm.

Abhorrent Admirer: Lawrence is one for Charlotte when he's out of his disguise.
Affectionate Nickname: More like a jokingly friendly nickname but Facilier calls him "Larry".
Anti-Villain: Lawrence is understandably fed up with the way he's treated by not only Naveen, but the others around him who show him no respect and it's implied he lived his life poor. This prompts him to become a villain along with Dr. Facilier. He is horrified when Naveen is transformed and loosens the lid when he's gasping for breath accidentally letting Nvaeen escape. He even attempts to back out of Facilier's plan at one point. He isn't aware of Facilier planning to sacrifice the "wayward" souls of New Orleans and may not even be aware of his plan to kill "Big Daddy".
Beleaguered Assistant: He carries all of Naveen's luggage but receives no gratitude. Also ends up this while working for Facilier, bullied and scammed ("sixty-forty like I said") without realizing it.
Butt-Monkey: "You've been pushed around all your life... you've been pushed around by your mother and your sister and your brother. And if you was married, you'd be pushed around by your wife."
Dirty Coward: When it becomes clear that Facilier's voodoo magic is real, he's terrified and wants to back out. Unfortunately for him, Facilier uses a combination of his snake oil charisma and blunt threats to keep him in line.
Disproportionate Retribution: Sure, Naveen (unintentionally) put him through shit by mistreating him, but that doesn't excuse Lawrence attempting to not only to steal Naveen's life by impersonating him, but also swindling an innocent girl out of her money.
Even Evil Has Standards: He manages to ruin the plan due to his concern for Naveen gasping for air when imprisoned in a glass jar. He also is horrified watching Naveen turn into a frog. He also attempts to back out of Facilier's deal but Facilier convinces him to continue working with him.
Evil Brit: Despite his voice actor Peter Bartlett being pure American, Larry's accent says Brit and his compliance with the Evil Plan is the evil.
Expy:
- His appearance and personality, and the fact that the animators gave him rodent-like features to symbolise the fact that he was a 'rat', make him very reminiscent of Peter Pettigrew. Not to mention the fact that his voice actor is literally named Peter...
- Those on the commentary admitted that Mr. Smee was an inspiration for him.
Extreme Doormat: He's been pushed around all his life—by his mother, sister, brother, and Naveen.
Fat Bastard: For all that he works for Naveen, he has a well-fed belly.
Freudian Excuse: He's been pushed around all his life by his whole family and doesn't get much respect from Naveen either. It's also implied from Facilier that they both grew up poor and the "fat cats" did nothing to help them.
Gold Digger: He tries to marry Charlotte as Naveen because of her money.
Henpecked Husband: Or he would be. He's not actually married, but Facilier suggests that if he was, he would be pushed around by his wife.
I Just Want to Be Loved: Implied, Lawrence briefly perks up and gets a small hopeful smile when Facilier mentions the possibility of marriage, and possible love and companionship. It doesn't last.
The Jeeves: Naveen's British-sounding servant.
Put on a Prison Bus: Lawrence is arrested at the end for conspiring with the Big Bad, Dr. Facilier, to take over New Orleans. Facilier himself meets a much grimmer fate.
Revenge: His motivation for teaming up with Facilier is retribution for Naveen living the high life while he himself works without receiving any gratitude.
Naveen: (in frog form) Lawrence, why are you doing this?

Naveen: (in Naveen's form) It's payback for all those years of humiliation.
The Unfavorite: Implied, by the fact that his mother pushed him around and allowed her other children to do so as well.

The Friends on the Other Side

A group of sinister Loa whom Facilier is contracted to. They enable the plot of the film through granting Facilier his powers, but seem interested in little more than claiming souls.

Ax-Crazy: Just look at them when they come to get Facilier. Or when he offers up the souls of New Orleans.
Bad Boss: When Tiana shatters Dr. Facilier's amulet, he can't pay back his souls to his Friends on the Other Side, so they claim his soul for all eternity. The fact that they sadistically sing "Are you ready!" instead of taking him shows just how horrible they are.
Color Motif: Sickly green, midnight black, and supernatural purple.
Creepy Doll: Some of them manifest as voodoo dolls instead of Living Shadows.
Dark Is Evil: They often appear as living shadows, and they are very evil.
Deal with the Devil: They grant power to humans in exchange for various things, like for example that human's soul. Defaulting on this debt is a very bad thing.

Hell Gate: Their "leader" can open its mouth to open a portal to their realm. This is how they claim Faciler's soul in the climax.
Karma Houdini: They get no comeuppance for aiding Faciler in his schemes aside from being denied the many souls they wanted.
Leitmotif: An ominous chant accompanied by a thumping drumbeat. Bum bum bum bum bum bum bum bum...
Living Shadow: One of the forms they take, and perhaps the most dangerous as they can now directly (yet indirectly) affect the physical world.
Loan Shark: What they essentially are, behind all their abilities and otherworldly nature. They do offer magic and other assistance to humans, but never for free; they want souls, and if someone keeps asking for services, they'll ask for more souls. And if a client can't pay back what they owe, their own soul is forfeit.
The Man Behind the Man: Everything Dr. Facilier does is so he can provide them with souls in exchange for power (and his own well-being).
Non-Indicative Name: They are certainly NOT your friends. Either Dr. Facilier uses the term because he didn't want to offend them (in short, the same reason The Fair Folk are so named), or they're the closest things he has to friends. The Junior Novelization heavily implies it's the former. Though it's possible he did have cordial ties with them before he was forced to ask them for help when Prince Naveen as a frog ran away, especially since there's nothing that indicates Facilier ever upset his friends before that point.
Nothing Personal: As far as we know, even though Facilier is using their power against Tiana, they themselves actually have no problem with her. They don't maliciously do anything to her - that's Facilier, with their power; after they take it back, by taking Facilier, they don't bother with Tiana.
Not So Above It All: For all the terror they induce, they also seem to like singing a capella, whether as backup for someone else or when they come to collect.
Sadist: Anyone who joyfully sings and asks you "Are you ready to pretty much die?" fits this for a fact.
Shadow Pin: Their signature ability. They don't need to touch your physical body, just your shadow.
Sickly Green Glow: Their home realm has this color, and their eyes at times glow menacingly with the same color.
Slasher Smile: The only kind of smile they can make. They give a set of particularly "into it" smiles when they come to take Facilier for failing them one too many times and when offers the souls of New Orleans.
Weakened by the Light: Mama Odie can zap their shadows. Ray's firefly illumination is weaker and lacks Odie's supernatural power, but even he can hurt them.
With Friends Like These...: It's heavily implied that they are rooting for Facilier to fail due to them getting fed up with waiting around for Facilier to repay his debt.
You Have Failed Me: In the climax, Tiana destroys Facilier's talisman, the linchpin in his scheme to take control of New Orleans. Without it, the Shadow Man can't make due on his promise, so the Friends come to collect his debt.
Your Soul is Mine!: They make a deal with Facilier to gain the souls of every person in New Orleans. Once it's clear he can't follow through with his end of the bargain, they turn on him and take his soul as payment.

The Fenner Brothers

Voiced by: Corey Burton (Harvey Fenner) and Jerry Kernion (Henry Fenner)

The real estate agents who currently hold Tiana's long-coveted sugar mill. Before the big LaBouff ball, they make arrangements to provide Tiana with the papers to sign the sugar mill over to her on a down payment, but during the festivities they inform her that she was unfortunately outbid by another gentleman and the sugar mill will go to him if she can't match the full amount in a few days.

All There in the Script: The names of the Fenner bros are confirmed in end credits: Henry (tall skinny one) and Harvey (fat short one).
Fat and Skinny: Each brother is one or the other to better tell them apart.
Fat Bastard: Harvey, the fatter of the two, is also clearly the meaner of the two. He shows no sympathy for Tiana losing her claim on the location whereas Henry is noticeably hesitant to explain the situation. He even hogs a lot of the beignets from the buffet table for himself.
Faux Affably Evil: Henry, the skinnier brother; He tries to break the news about Tiana being outbid to her gently, but it's clear he doesn't have any more respect or empathy for her than his brother - in fact, he tries to paint it as being for her own good.
Tiana: D-do you know how long it took me to save that money?!

Henry: Exactly! Which is why a little woman of your... background... woulda had her hands full tryin' to run a big business like that. No, you're better off where yer at.
Hate Sink: They are racist and sexist. They don't have any redeeming qualities, and they exist for the viewers to hate them.
Jerkass: They're openly racist, sexist, and utterly unsympathetic. The tall skinny one does seem more polite than the shorter one, though.
Laser-Guided Karma:
- During the banquet, Tiana and Naveen accidentally get the giant cake to fall on them.
- They're threatened by a snarling Louis into keeping their word to Tiana.
Villainy-Free Villain: They make racist and sexist comments to Tiana, but they have every right to sell the place Tiana wants to a higher bidder.
